Pediatricians are doctors who care for children from birth to early adulthood. They specialize in diseases and ailments specific to young and growing bodies. We offer a full range of pediatric services for newborns, infants, children and teenagers.

Schedule Preventive Visits for a Life-Long Journey to Good Health

Palomar Health Medical Group pediatricians see children at regular intervals in order to maintain your child’s health and discuss your child’s growth, development, nutrition, and behavior.

  • First newborn visits should be scheduled 2 days after discharge from the hospital unless the hospital doctor recommends coming sooner.
  • Well Baby Visits are scheduled at 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 15 and 18 months old.
  • Well Child Visits are scheduled at 2, 3, 4 and 5 years old. After your child starts school, we recommend a
  • Well Child Visit every other year, usually at 7, 9, and 11 years old.
  • Many teens need a physical before starting high school so please schedule your teen’s appointment well in advance of any registration deadline.

 

Immunizations are provided at regular intervals as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the American Academy of Pediatrics.  The following link will download the recommended schedule and the catch up schedule: www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/index.html

Government Vaccine Information Statements (VIS) are given to parents before vaccinations may be given.  VIS may be found at www.cdc.gov/vaccines/pubs/vis/

General Pediatric FAQs

PHMG pediatricians have a close working partnership with the Rady Children’s Pediatric Specialties in San Diego, including cardiology, endocrinology (for diabetes and hormone related disorders), orthopedics, infectious disease, allergy, asthma, neurology and developmental specialists in addition to other specialties.

At PHMG, our world-class physicians offer the following services to pediatric patients:

  • Mental health such as anxiety/depression with antidepressant medications if needed
  • Birth control such as oral contraceptive pills (OCPs)

If you have a concern, please call 760.291.6700 to schedule an appointment. If there are no immediate concerns, we recommend scheduling an appointment with your pediatrician at the following ages:

  • Newborn
  • 1 month
  • 2 months
  • 4 months
  • 6 months
  • 9 months
  • 12 months
  • 15 months
  • 18 months
  • 24 months
  • 30 months
  • 36 months
  • Annually after the child is 3 years old

 

For regularly scheduled check-ins we recommend the following:

We provide American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommended screenings for the following:

  • Autism, Development
  • Depression screens for mothers and teens
  • Labs/testing depending on age

PHMG pediatricians see children at regular intervals in order to maintain your child’s health and discuss your child’s growth, development, nutrition and behavior.

  • Depression Teen Screenings should occur anytime from ages 12 to 18 years old.
  • ASQ development, a developmental testing tool, should be screened for at the following ages: 9 months, 18 months and 30 months.
  • M-Chat/Autism, also known as Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, should be screened for at the following ages: 18 months and 24 months.
  • EPDS Maternal wellbeing, which is used to screen mothers for postnatal depression, should be screened for at 1 month, 2 months and any time of concern after giving birth.
  • Anemia/Lead which tests for red blood cell count should be tested for at the following ages: 12 months, 24 months and anytime of concern.
  • Routine Lipid/Cholesterol screening requires a simple blood draw to test for the lipoprotein (LPL) level at the age of 11 years old.
  • Routine HIV testing should be screened at the ages 16 and 18 years old, along with other STD testing if patient is sexually active.
